In the Dragonball Z anime (by Toriyama, Akira), the Spirit Bomb and the Kamehameha wave techniques used in battles are the most widely known by fans everywhere. Almost the first words brought to mind when we hear the anime name “Dragonball Z”, are “Goku” (the main character), “Kamehameha” and the “Spirit Bomb”. It’s interesting to note however, in this Sino-Japanese (Chinese/Japanese) culture based anime, that these are wildly exaggerated examples of real, chi-power based internal martial arts operations, such as “Fa Jing”, for example. Allow me to explain…

In Asia, the matter-of-fact acceptance of chi (actually “Qi” in China, and “ki” in Japan) as an existent force of nature is all-pervasive throughout Asian culture, even in children’s cartoons such as Dragonball Z when characters use the Spirit Bomb attack. When Goku stands and fires up his chi, pulls his hands around and in towards him and shoots them outwards together in tiger-jaw formation, shouting, “Kamehameha!”, this is actually a representation of an operation known in Yang style T’ai Qi Quan internal form as “Fa Jing”. This is the technique used when we hear of two people sparring in a tournament, and one sends the other flying backwards out of the ring, often without even making even the slightest physical contact with the opponent.

To make the Spirit Bomb and Kamehameha techniques really work (although, in nowhere near to the insanely exaggerated light-show proportions as depicted in Dragonball Z), you need to study Yang T’ai Qi Quan, but the internal form of the martial art… or practice Qigong, or other type of energy cultivation method. This is how to make them work. You also need to know that there are two aspects – there is chi, and there is jing… one is the field, and the other is the energy which flows throughout the field. In sparring, when one opponent uses fa jing to send the other flying out of the ring, it isn’t a chi blast that has plowed the opponent per se, but is actually in fact, jing.

The Dragonball series of anime movies has enthralled people the world over with its brilliant characters, special effects, and amazing animation. Basically Dragonball Kai is a revised version of Dragonball Z and has been released to commemorate the latter’s 20th anniversary. Telecasting of the same began from the 5th of April, 2009 on Fuji Television. The old episodes have been remastered using hi definition pictures.

This new episode also includes special effects and the sound tracks have been re-recorded using the same cast that was there in the original. For those who do not know, in the old days, animation movies were made by first drawing separate images of every sequence. These are known as cels. During production of Dragonball Kai, it was found that that the cels of the last episode (Dragonball Z) had been discarded.

They had last been shown in 1996. To make up for this loss of footage, digital tracing technology was used to make new frames and they were then filled up using softer colors. This procedure of digital tracing helped ensure that the original frames were not damaged. During the procedure a number of frames were cropped.

Also, a number of frames were added that feature new portions that have been added to the scenes that were drawn by hand in the same ratio as that of the picture. Quite a lot of material that was there in Dragonball Z have been removed hence reducing the count of the new episode to approximately 100 which is far less than the 291 episodes of the original.

Dragon Ball Z is well known as one of the most popular manga stories to date, with millions of copies being sold since its release. There are two other sister series aside from DragonBall Z, those are DragonBall, and Dragon Ball GT. The series have also been translated to English for production for the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The main character, “Goku”, has been called the ‘strongest manga character of all time’. And the story is well known all over Japan and the world, the main character’s journey also won the admiration of many young boys.

The series what written and directed by Akira Toriyama, when conceiving the production of Dragon Ball, he wanted to step away from the western influences that predominated his previous series. Instead, he based it loosely on the Chinese novel known as ‘Journey to the West’.

The Show initially started in 1984 and continued production until 1995 when Toriyama felt he needed to take a break. The show was the second animation series made to quickly follow the popular predecessor, Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z was also a massive success and ran for 291 episodes. That was later followed by Dragon Ball GT, which was not from original manga unlike the two earlier ones.

The plot follows a boy with a monkey tail named Goku as he starts out on a quest to find the magic seven Dragon balls. During the journey, Goku goes though a large amount of intense martial arts trainings and other programs so he can be able to fight at the prestigious World Martial Arts Tournament. He also faces many villains such as the Red Ribbon Army, the Emperor Pilaf, and Piccolo the Demon.

When he grows into a young adult, Goku comes into contact with his older brother for the first time who informs him that he has descended from an alien race called the Saiyans, and that he had been sent to earth to conquer the planet for them. Goku refuses to help his brother conquer earth, and afterwards must fight many hostile rivals from space.

Afterwards, the Red Army rises up again to try to avenge themselves on Goku, although they are eventually defeated. After seven more years, Goku is involved another battle for the universe, fighting a hostile alien known as Majin Buu. At the conclusion of the series, Goku trains Buu’s reincarnation to become the next defender of Earth.

Long before Californians elected him as the Governator, former elite bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger took Hollywood by storm as The Terminator. An overpowering figure with amazing charisma on and off the screen, Schwarzenegger did his best to secure roles outside of the typecast blood and destruction movies for which he seemed destined. Instead, Arnold showcased his diversity by branching out into differing genres with such flicks as Twins, Junior, and Kindergarten Cop… Arnold’s success is apparent in this light-hearted romantic comedy which utilizes his likeability as well as his macho man image. A delightful bit of entertainment, Kindergarten Cop is classic Arnold, spawning another of his usual famous one-liners, “It’s not a tumor”!

When Detective John Kimble (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his partner, Phoebe O’Hara (Pamela Reed), get a hot tip that a drug dealer, Cullen Crisp (Richard Tyson), who they’ve long pursued is searching for his ex-wife because of some money she embezzled from his operation, the two detectives go undercover to find the woman before he does. With Crisp’s wife, Rachel, being the only one alive capable of testifying against Crisp and putting him jail, Kimble is intent on hunting her down. But all he and O’Hara know is the name of the Oregon school the woman’s son attends. A former teacher herself, O’Hara agrees to go undercover as a kindergarten teacher in order to weed out the identity of the boy and his mother.

The plan goes awry however, when O’Hara becomes horribly ill, forcing Kimble to become the undercover kindergarten cop. The principal is reluctant, but agrees to give Kimble a try. A horrible disciplinarian with no idea of how to control a group of five-year-olds, Kimble’s kindergarten class runs rings around him. A nearby first grade teacher, Joyce Palmieri (Penelope Ann Miller), provides him with advice and pointers – leading to a budding romance between the two. With her son Dominic in the class, Kimble suspects that she may be Crisp’s ex-wife, but discounts the possibility once she tells him that her ex-husband is dead.

Rallying the class behind his new teaching methods, Kimble becomes one of the top teachers in the school. But his failure to hunt down Crisp’s ex-wife provides the drug-dealer with the necessary time to hunt down his wife. Upon Crisp’s arrival in town, Kimble and O’Hara learn that his true intention is not the money his ex-wife supposedly stole, but the snatching of his son. Together, they must take on Crisp and his belligerent mother before they kidnap the young boy…

A funny and heart-warming comedy, Kindergarten Cop’s success rests solely on the shoulders of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his unique onscreen personality. With memorable one-liners and cute kids, the film is fun for the entire family. Although it has a modicum of action, Kindergarten Cop is not to be confused with an action thriller. So if you’re looking for that type of film, it’s not this one. But overall, Kindergarten Cop is an entertaining way to spend an evening, and for that reason, it’s a definite must-see film…
