There are many benefits to getting into a turn-based game. They are much different than traditional games, in which you are consistently involved in gameplay and the only break you can give yourself is with the pause button. When considering if you would like to play this kind of game, you need to understand it first, and then make your decision.

In a turn-based game, you make a move, and then pause and wait for what your opponent does. Many role-playing games, such as Final Fantasy, take this format. However, because it is difficult to create a game with a sensible plot that is only turn-based, most modern games incorporate turn-based aspects and features from regular titles to make a game that looks a little like both.

For the easiest example, think back to Pokemon. I know that nearly everybody who is reading this article has played the original Pokemon games, which started out on Gameboy and still feature incarnations in the Nintendo DS. In that game, you traveled around different regions in a regular gameplay mode, and then when you engaged in a Pokemon battle, the style changed to turn-based. The style that Pokemon pioneered is now used by thousands of games around the world.

What are some of the good things about turn-based games? For one, they can be more relaxing than other games, because they do require as much intense focus. Also, strategy becomes more important, and what you do in one turn could affect your opponent’s response or what you will do in the future. This makes turn-based games perfect for people who like to think when playing. Therefore, you should definitely consider at least trying out a game of this nature. Even if you think you will not like it, odds are that you will be pleasantly surprised.
